In my opinion, this is the most upsetting part of The Gift. It’s not the saddest part, but I think it’s the most upsetting. At the end of the day, Giles has to live with this. That’s a hard burden to bear, and I think it might have been one of the reasons for him wanting to leave California behind.
Definitely, and it strikes me as one of the most disturbing parts in Giles’s character arc, period. I have severely conflicted feelings about this moment, although I (partially) understand his motivations for doing what he does here.

#1. GLORY (Glorificus/Oh dirty causing nasty feelings one)
"Ow! You hit me! You can’t just go around hitting people. What’s wrong with you? Where you raised in a barn?"
i never said thank you for that.
Spike: Not all that tension was about you. Giles was a part of a plan to kill me…for Buffy’s own good.
"the beautiful ones… the popular ones… the guys that pick on you. Everyone. If you could hear what they’re feeling… the loneliness, the confusion. It looks quiet down there. It’s not."
Sometimes I wish I had watched Buffy as a teenager. I spent my highschool days being Jonathan and so, so angry that nobody else shared the pain I was in. I needed to see this. I needed to understand that lesson.
this was supposed to play right after Columbine, but because of the tragedy, they delayed it, worried about it being too close to home, but I really wish they hadn’t, because so many kids started following Dylan and Eric’s example, thinking that they were justified in their vengeance. This would have showed them they weren’t. Everybody has pain and that’s not an excuse for the horrible things some of them do, but it may help to know that it’s there sometimes.
Also, you forgot the best part of that quote, the part I thought was most beautiful.
“It looks quiet down there. It’s not. It’s deafening.”
